The 2.0-liter 155hp 4-cylinder acts as the entry-level engine, and the 1.5-liter 180hp turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is available at higher trim levels such as the EX, EXL, touring, and sport touring.

A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is the gearbox found in most Civics, although a 6-speed manual is available on the 2023 Honda Civic Sport and Sport Touring trims.

Standard features on the Honda Civic 2023 include an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible infotainment system, automatic headlights, rearview camera, LED headlights and taillights, and the Honda Sensing active safety feature suite.

The outgoing Honda Civic Type R is one of the kings of the hot hatch world. But the 10th generation is done and cleaned up, and a new Civic Type R is on its way. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming super hatch.

Thanks to the many spy photos we’ve recently acquired, we know more than Honda wants about its hottest Civic. The new generation will of course adapt the interior of the 11th generation Civic but will carry the Type R’s key features including red suede bucket seats and a nicely shiftable six-speed manual. There won’t be an option for auto, but the hardcore audience that usually attracts the Type R won’t mind at all.

Of course, the bodywork will also change. The next “CTR” (as fans started calling it) will be based on the current Civic hatchback, but with vents and wings growing out of its sheet metal, all for better performance, downforce, and cooling.

As for what’s under the hood, we still don’t know. Honda didn’t play around with the new Si at all, and it made less power than the previous car.

We think the massaged version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder found in the previous Type R will be under the new car’s hood when it finally launches.

The output will likely be similar to the 306 horsepower output of the older model and should channel that power via a limited-slip differential to the front wheels only.

Price is another guess, but the last Type R started at just over $38,000, and that was before dealers started adding “market-adjustment” fees. Expect the new model to creep above the $40,000 mark.

Honda has for the second time released a series of dramatic, low-light photos from testing the new Civic Type R 2023 hot hatchback ahead of its 2022 debut.

This time, the Civic Type R is located at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan, and the photos are closer than those taken during the session. a different test at Germany’s Nürburgring —and more open.

Automakers are getting smart with the camouflage treatments applied to test vehicles — after all, why embellish a car with camera distortion patterns when you can adapt those patterns from designs you already have, or even load them with teasers and cryptic references, like Ford’s recent one. recently tried with the hardcore Bronco Raptor?

While Honda calls these images of the latest Civic Type R a “test photo,” there aren’t many photos of the hatchback that are, you know, testing. Instead, there are plenty of moody beauty shots of the track-devouring turbocharged Civic.

Of greater utility are photos revealing new details about the next Type R, including a closeup of the front wheels which confirms Honda will once again equip Brembo’s red-painted front brake calipers.

A few images of the tire changes also reveal Michelin Pilot 4S tires — which are very beefy, though we couldn’t see the exact size — and the fenders that are decidedly wider than the regular Civic to accommodate that rubber. Another shot of the interior shows that the fiery red front seats will once again define the Type R’s cabin.

We’ll know more when Honda launches the 2023 Civic Type R next year, but for now, the best we can hope for in a while is a more suggestive photo of the prototype.

2023 Honda Civic Type R Interior

While the new Civic Type R will have a more minimalistic interior design than its predecessor—which should give it a more mature feel, as does the exterior, we’re still expecting plenty of vibrant visual cues.

They should include red accents, faux carbon-fiber trim, and—hopefully—a set of very comfortable and supportive front seats. Like the regular Civic, it will have a digital gauge cluster and physical climate control located above the center console with a large storage area and two cupholders.

Honda’s latest infotainment system runs via a 9.0-inch touchscreen mounted above the Type R dashboard. We expect it to be packed with popular standard features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless smartphone charging.

The Honda Civic Type R 2023 will look more subdued than its over-stylized predecessor, but that doesn’t make it any more interesting to drive.

We’re sure it will include a more powerful version of the current turbo four. We’ve also spied testing a camouflaged model, which doesn’t do much to disguise the distinct rear wing and aggressive wheel and tire package.

• Price and Where to Buy Civic Type R $39,000 (est)

Honda hasn’t said how much the 2023 Civic Type R will cost, but we expect it to start at under $40,000 when it goes on sale. However, we were told that it wouldn’t be until around 2022.

The new Civic Type R will continue to be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine but will be more powerful than the current generation which produces 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

Honda has confirmed that the strongest Civic will still have a standard manual transmission, and we think it might as well add a dual automatic clutch to match the Hyundai Veloster N. The upcoming Type R will not have a new chassis, but rather an evolution that underpins the previous model.

We believe that setting aside the adoption of a control arm front suspension—as seen on the Acura TLX. In contrast, the front-only Honda will probably continue to use its innovative dual-axis strut front suspension which does a great job of suppressing torque.

While the next Civic Type R won’t be too visually extreme, it still has a prominent rear wing and other aerodynamic additions, as well as 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in sticky performance tires.

2023 Honda Civic Coupe

2023 Honda Civic SI Honda’s 11th generation Civic Coupe will only be sold as a sedan or four-door hatchback.

The two-door coupe model, which was available on the upcoming Civic through the 2020 model year, is not coming back. This marks the first time the US-market Civic has not been offered a two-door body style.

The electric Civic caught testing in Japan alongside the Insight, but now we know it’s not coming to America.

Already the recent Honda Civic-palooza with the 11th generation car was revealed, the hatchback, the new Si, and the upcoming Type R versions were teased. But there’s another variant on the road: the new Civic hybrid.

Photos of the car testing in Japan surfaced on the Civic XI forums on Monday and specifically show testing the electric Civic hatchback with the Insight.

We know the Civic hatchback will be a hybrid-only option in Europe, but right now, it’s not coming to America.

“At this time, there is no room for a Civic Hybrid in our lineup,” a Honda spokesperson said in a statement, “as we have the Insight that is successfully competing in today’s compact hybrid sedan market.” Disappointment.

From a photo perspective, the Civic hybrid doesn’t look much different from the standard hatchback. The front fascia looks a little different, but the overall design stays with the sleek and refined look of the 11th generation.

Not a bad thing if you like new car designs, but don’t expect any major changes for the most budget-friendly Civic.

Maybe one day Honda will change its mind about the Civic hatchback hybrid. Despite Insight being a pretty good car, the Civic hybrid hatchback could perform a bit better with American car buyers looking for more utility. For now, we won’t know, as it will remain forbidden fruit for North Americans.

At the 57 second mark, an undisguised metallic green car flashes past (pictured), and we wonder if this color will be offered on the production car.

It could be a flashy launch color or just a uniquely disguised prototype that Honda plans to show at the Tokyo Auto Salon. In addition, the quick look of the car is the closest to the open view in a hot hatch.

While the current generation car is equipped with Continental SportContact 6 tires, the new car will sport Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber on the new black 10-spoke wheels.

Brembo brakes are also visible, and the large rear wing is smoother. Three exhaust tips continue to stick out in the middle of the rear diffuser.

However, unless Honda officially confirms that the next-generation Civic Type R will have an automatic transmission, this is still just a rumor.

However, one thing is certain. Honda is working hard to make the Civic Type R the best front-wheel drive (FWD) car on the planet.

We believe the base price for the standard Civic LX 2023 sedan will continue to start at around $22,000. Moving up to the highest trims, such as the 2023 Honda Civic EX and Touring models, pushes the asking price closer to $30,000.

That’s about what you’d pay for a 2023 Honda Civic SI sedan, incidentally. This performance model helps add some sparkle to the lineup, though it’s not the highest-performing Civic – nor is it the most expensive.

That title belongs to the 2023 Civic Type R, with a base price of around $40,000.
