2024 Honda Civic with the introduction of the Honda Civic as a completely redesigned compact car in 2022, the vehicle remains a new addition to the segment. We expect the upcoming 2024 Honda Civic to arrive as a stock model since the redesign wasn’t that long ago.
The 2024 Civic should retain the same exterior design as the current model. Today’s compact vehicles feature a sporty yet conservative design. The front end features rectangular headlamps, a sleek square grille, and a large air intake to give the vehicle a design that makes it appear to lean forward.
The rear of the Civic features triangular taillights connected by a hatchback horizontal bar and a small rear spoiler. The performance-oriented Civic Si and Civic Type R add a touch of aggression with the latter looking like a track-focused machine.
As a carryover model, the interior design of the 2024 Honda Civic is not expected to change much. This compact vehicle has a high-end look with a simple dashboard and simple controls. A single piece of trim spanned nearly the width of the dashboard and hid the car’s air vents.
2024 Honda Civic Review
Honda gave a preview of the automaker’s product cadence, highlighting what we should expect from the brand in the coming year. Buried within the press release is a brief mention of the Honda Civic Hybrid. The automaker will introduce it in the US in 2024, offering the model in sedan and hatchback body styles.
The arrival of this model is part of the company’s efforts to increase hybrid sales in the country. Honda wants to increase the sales mix of the CR-V and Accord hybrid to 50 percent, which the automaker says is “an important step in bridging customers with fully electric vehicles while reducing GHG [greenhouse gas] emissions.”
The automaker revealed the Civic Hybrid hatchback for the European market in March, with the sedan version debuting a few days later in Thailand. The E:HEV gets its power from a newly developed 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine with two compact electric motors.
The system produces a combined 181 horsepower (135 kilowatts) and 232 pound-feet (315 Newton-meters) of torque, which Honda has paired with the less sporty e-CVT.
The new Accord Hybrid has a similar powertrain, pairing the 2.0-liter engine with a two-motor electric system. However, the setup produces a more powerful 204 hp (152 kW) and 247 lb-ft (334 Nm), which is more than the 200 hp (149 kW) and 192 lb-ft (260 Nm) torque of the Civic Si). Motor1.com reached out to Honda to confirm the Civic Hybrid powertrain.
A spokesperson told us the company will “have more on it at a later time.”
Visually, the Civic Hybrid aimed at the US will look similar to the rest of the current lineup. The E:HEV debuts in Europe with a 9.0-inch infotainment display and 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, which should be standard on the US variant.
Honda didn’t say when we’ll learn more about the Civic Hybrid, but it will debut later this year before going on sale for the 2024 model year. We’ll also see Honda introduce the rugged 2024 Ridgeline TrailSport variant later this year.
Expect the truck to receive visual updates, capability upgrades, and other off-road upgrades for the pickup.
- Honda has announced it will launch a hybrid version of its Civic compact car for the 2024 model year.
- The company said the Civic hybrid will be offered in sedan and hatchback body styles and will be powered by a powertrain version of the larger Accord hybrid.
- The hybrid models will not replace the petrol models currently offered but will be sold alongside them when they hit the market in 2024.

What’s New
The center touchscreen sits above the dashboard and is positioned towards the front for ease of use. Honda’s HVAC controls include large dials and well-labeled buttons. The Civic Si and Type R added sportier elements such as heavy-support seats, metal pedals, and red accents.
Fuel-efficient, stylish, and fun to drive, are all traits that make the 2024 Honda Civic a winner in our book. The Civic is a small car classic and is probably what most people imagine when they think of economical and practical everyday transportation, even more so than rivals such as the Hyundai Elantra and Mazda 3.
The entry-level model comes with a 158-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder but a more powerful 180-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and a hybrid powertrain are also available.
Touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard across the line, and Honda outfitted every Civic with a variety of driver-assist features, too. It may not be as impressive as the performance-oriented Civic Si and Civic Type R, but the standard Civic still gives drivers a taste of the good stuff, with snappy handling and refined road manners.
A hybrid powertrain will join the Civic lineup for 2024. Honda says the Civic hybrid will be offered as a sedan and as a hatchback, both powered by a version of the hybrid powertrain found in the hybrid Accord.
That means the four-cylinder engine is paired with two electric motors for between 180 and 200 horsepower.
- HIGHEST
Dashing design, roomy cabin, affordable entry price. - LOWEST
No manual transmission in the sedan, not as powerful as the Si model, small infotainment screen in the base model. - DECISION
With its fun-driving looks, good fuel efficiency, and eye-catching styling, the Civic is the perfect compact car we can’t help but admire.
2024 Honda Civic Specs
The current Civic comes with a seven-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, eight audio speakers, Bluetooth, and a USB port. Available features include a nine-inch touchscreen, 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 12-speaker audio, navigation, and a wireless charging pad. These features should continue to be available in the 2024 Civic.
Honda offers the Civic with a powerful line of engines. The standard engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque. There is a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine available.
This engine can be paired with a six-speed manual or continuously variable automatic. The Civic Si comes with a turbocharged version of the engine that produces 200 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. The range-topping Civic Type R comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 315 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
The Civic Si and Type R are only available with a six-speed manual transmission. We don’t expect to see any changes to the Civic’s powertrain for 2024.
Every Civic comes with a comprehensive list of standard safety features. This compact car is equipped with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, automatic high beam assist, and rear seat warning.
Available features include blind spot monitoring, rear traffic warning, and parking sensors. These features should continue to be available in the 2024 Honda Civic.
2024 Honda Civic Report
The next step in Honda’s plans to hybridize its lineup will come in the form of the 2024 Civic Hybrid, which will be offered as both a sedan and a hatchback. The company’s electrification plans include moving to an all-electric lineup by 2040, but temporarily increasing its hybrid offerings meant to bridge that gap.
We reported last April that Honda had launched a hybrid version of the Civic hatchback in Europe, and speculated that the car would also make its way to the United States to replace the discontinued Insight sedan.
We’re not yet sure exactly how Honda will adapt the European car’s powertrain, which consists of a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that produce 181 horsepower, for the US market. But we can only hope that the output is closer to the 204 horsepower offered by the closely related hybrid setup in the 2023 Accord hybrid.

While consumer interest has shifted from cars to light trucks and SUVs, Honda still sees sedans and hatchbacks as an important part of its business.
“The market has moved away from passenger cars, but cars are still important to Honda,” said Mamadou Diallo, vice president of auto sales for American Honda. “The cars bring a younger, more multicultural buyer to the brand.”
The introduction of a hybrid powertrain to the Civic lineup is part of Honda’s plan to retain younger buyers. Honda plans to open an order book for the all-electric Prolog SUV this year as well, which will be its first step towards wider electrification of its lineup in the coming years.
2024 Honda Civic Hybrid
Honda released the all-new Civic in 2022 which quickly won awards. It offers sophisticated style for the price, a refined driving experience, and Honda’s legendary reliability and resale value. The 2023 Civic – largely the same car – takes home our 2023 Best Buy Award in its class.
But Honda fans and car critics alike are surprised by the one thing it doesn’t offer – a hybrid drivetrain.
Honda will sell a hybrid edition of the Civic sedan and hatchback, the company said. It will use a dual-motor setup similar to the current Honda CR-V Hybrid, which likely means the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and electric motor both send power to the front wheels.
That will leave the Toyota Corolla Hybrid with an edge – all-wheel-drive – in the minds of some buyers.
And its arrival in 2024 does little to help buyers needing a car of the year. But that closes a hole in Honda’s lineup — since the automaker scrapped the Insight hybrid last year, it has had no affordable model more efficient than a modest petrol-powered car to offer loyalists.
Mamadou Diallo, vice president of auto sales for Honda and Acura, also confirmed that the Honda Ridgeline midsize pickup truck will get an off-road TrailSport variant, though he didn’t specify an arrival date.
2024 Honda Civic Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The sleek interior design features clean lines and a dashboard featuring wide mesh design elements in a honeycomb pattern that cleverly conceals the air vents.
The wide center console appears less cluttered than previous models and has a large, deep bin in front of the shift lever for stashing your smartphone, keys, and travel snacks. Honda says the passenger space is more or less the same, and the cargo space is more spacious.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The Civic comes standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, but a larger 9.0-inch unit is optional, as is a 10.2-inch digital gauge display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard and offer wireless connectivity when paired with a larger screen. Other options include in-dash navigation, a Bose stereo system, and a wireless smartphone charging pad.
2024 Honda Civic Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Even though the Civic is being redesigned for 2022, the powertrain options are still carried over from the previous generation of cars. The base model comes standard with a 158-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder, while the engine upgrade continues to be a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder which now makes 180 horsepower.
The new Civic is offered only as a front-wheel drive car. Unfortunately, the manual transmission offered in the previous generation Civic sedan has been trimmed down for 2022, leaving the CVT as the only offering. The six-speed manual is still available on the hatchback models.

On our test track, our turbocharged Touring sedan took 7.5 seconds to reach 60 mph, which is slightly slower than the last-gen Civic’s result. The manual Sport Touring hatchback we tested did slightly better at 7.3 seconds to 60 mph.
Fortunately, the agile handling, communicative steering, and balanced ride that we valued so much in the last generation model are present and accounted for here. The Sporty Si and the highly sporty high-performance Type-R variant are back in the family and are being reviewed separately.
Real World Fuel and MPG Savings
According to the EPA, the most fuel-efficient version of the new Civic is the mid-range EX, which produces a city rating of 33 mpg, 42 mpg highway, and 36 mpg combined. Fuel economy estimates for the hybrid model are not yet available.
On our fuel-efficient 75 mph highway route, the 2022 Civic Sport hatchback delivered 36 mpg. For more information on the Civic’s fuel economy, visit the EPA website.
Safety and Driver Assistance Features
A number of driver assistance features will be offered as standard, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assistance.
For more information on Civic crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
- Standard automatic emergency braking
- Standard lane departure alerts with lane maintenance assistance
- Standard adaptive cruise control

2024 Honda Civic Price
Without major changes, the price should stay close to the current model which costs $25,745 (with a view to this).
Our recommendation is the well-equipped EX sedan, which comes with lots of extra features that easily justify the increase in price. Those goodies include blind spot monitoring, a powered sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated outside mirrors, and heated front seats.
It also comes standard with a more powerful 180-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine. If you bought a hatchback, we’d point you towards the EX-L, which offers similar equipment and adds leather seats.
- Sport sedans $26,000 (est)
- Sport hatchbacks $27,000 (est)
- EX sedans $28,000 (est)
- Hybrid sedans $29,000 (est)
- EX-L hatchback $30,000 (est)
