2024 Honda Accord: New Midsize Sedan Exclusive Review

Posted on

2024 Honda Accord, the 11th-generation Accord sedan adopts the design language of the new Civic and CR-V which is more refined and less challenging. In a world where crossovers and SUVs dominate everything, it’s heartwarming that some sedans are still relevant.

In Honda’s case, the long-lived Accord is about to enter its eleventh generation, allaying fears that the Grim Reaper will bring the samurai sword to Japanese mid-sizers.

A few notes at first glance: many of the finer points of earlier Accords carry over, so the proportions and roofline will be déjà vu to the discerning observer. Everything else is visually restrained compared to its flamboyant predecessor. Blame Honda’s new design direction, but this restraint is also evident in the new Civic and CR-V.

Key details? Well, the front features sleeker LED headlamps and a trapezoidal grille that, to many eyes, exudes much more than the Taurus sign Ford left behind.

Elsewhere, there’s a fuss-free sheet metal surface, a fastback silhouette, and full-width LED taillight clusters. The trunk lid has a smooth lip, and the exhaust appears to be hidden behind the lower bumper.

2024 Honda Accord Review

The 2024 Honda Accord is one of the most attractive and effective family cars to drive, with developments that have been continuously developed from generation to generation. The Accord can also be an economical solution in the automotive market for those of you who are fans of family sedans.

2024 Accord

The 2024 Accord is expected to deliver its latest makeover with great capabilities and practicality without being boring. So far the Accord models are part of last year’s 11th generation models.

A major departure from the standard hybrid powertrain in four of the six Accord trims the 204-horsepower hybrid powertrain offers up to 44 mpg combined depending on trim numbers which are high for cars in this segment.

This type of hybrid engine is also in great demand by some people. Honda even installed a 192 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine into the entry-level Accord trim. In addition, other segments are also presented with updates to various technology and driver assistance features, including a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and integrated Google Assistant, which is similar to a smart speaker for your car.

2024 Accord

The rest of America seems more interested in SUVs and trucks than sedans in these days. Understandably, automakers are following suit; consider that the Ford Fusion, Mazda 6, Toyota Avalon, and Volkswagen Passat have all been discontinued in recent years. But hey, you still like sedans right? So is Honda, and that’s why you might consider buying a 2024 Accord.

2024 Honda Accord

Honda’s famed Midsizer is coming with a full redesign for the 2023 model year. We didn’t know all the details yet as we wrote this, so be sure to check back later for more details.

But we know Honda will be toning down the exterior styling to better connect with the rest of the recently redesigned Honda. The interior will receive a more thorough redesign, especially the center screen. The touchscreen will be Honda’s largest at 12.3 inches and is the first in the automaker’s lineup to include Google Assistant integration.

The Accord retains the overall design structure of its predecessor. As such, expect a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) making around 190 horsepower in most Accords.

We also expect a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder to return, and it will produce around 250 hp. If you’re interested in saving money on gas, you can opt for the Accord Hybrid which will be returned for a redesign.

Specs: Honda Accord 2024

A 192-hp 1.5-liter turbocharged-4 powers the LX and EX models, driving the front wheels via a CVT. It’s grainy compared to the Accord Hybrid, but still good for a combined 32 mpg.

The hybrid system pairs a revised 2.0-liter inline-4 with two motors for 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. The system is smooth and easy to feel, and its reliance on electric power helps to yield a combined rating of up to 48 mpg, or 44 mpg combined in models with 19-inch wheels. Balanced handling and direct steering contribute to good driving dynamics for a front-drive sedan.

Crash testing isn’t over yet though Honda hopes the Accord will continue to earn the NHTSA’s five-star ratings and IIHS Top Safety Pick+ ratings. The standard safety package includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor, and active lane control, while features such as a wide-angle camera and radar detector improve detection.

2024 Honda Accord Redesign

Honda Accord Redesign 2024: came out with a completely redesigned Accord for the 2023 model year. With the 11th generation Accord being the latest model, we expect the 2024 Honda Accord to arrive without major changes.

Honda will be drastically redesigning it, and the renderings show a sedan with styling taken from the new Civic. The new Accord will receive sleek headlamps, a sizable grille, and a sleek lower bumper.

At the rear, the Honda maintains a swooping roofline, something that camouflage can’t hide. However, it is hoped that the rear of the Accord will follow the front in a more mature design, adopting the styling of the Civic’s taillights. Renders show the Accord with a light bar connecting the taillights, which is a possible styling feature.

The spy shot shows the trunk with something in between the lighting elements.

2024 Honda Accord Rendering

The patent images offer a full 360-degree view of the 2024 Accord in a series of included renderings, and since the patent only establishes the production design in question, there is little actual description provided on the Brazilian patent website.

2024 Honda Accord

However, we can see our prediction of a full light bar for the taillights was accurate, as is evident in this rendering. We can also see that the new Accord will retain the overall simple and clean fastback styling design of the current car, streamlined even further.

The front cli is somewhat inspired by the design of the new 2023 Honda CR-V that just fullhed in full last week, with a six-pointed grille flanked by two long, flat headlamps.

The overhangs are also noticeably longer over the front and rear wheels, suggesting the tenth-generation wheelbase won’t change, but the overall length could potentially increase, meaning more cabin and cargo space. The overall look seems to be inspired by the more premium model, which could be the direction Honda is pushing its older sedan.

Since the next Accord will be based on the same platform as the current car, we expect the same powertrain setup to carry over with some potential tweaks or upgrades. That would involve a 1.5-liter turbo I-4 linked to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), or an upgrade to a 2.0-liter turbo I-4 with a 10-speed automatic.

We hope a hybrid version will be available again, linking the electric motor to the 2.0-liter I-4. Front-wheel drive is guaranteed, and it’s unclear whether Honda will consider an all-wheel drive version, given its growing popularity and inclusion among competitors.

Now that the new CR-V hybrid has been fully unveiled, we anticipate that we will have more information on the next Accord later in the year with the model expected to be in production for the 2024 model year.

2024 Honda Accord Exterior

The exterior design of the 2024 Accord will match that of the current sedan. The current Accord sports a simple yet classy design. The front end features sleek headlamps, a rectangular grille, smooth edges, and a neat front air intake at the bottom of the bumper.

A prominent body line connects the headlights to the taillights, while the rear roofline has a more prominent rake compared to the previous generation. The rear of the Accord has circular taillights connected by a horizontal bar and a square rear bumper that juts out from the rear.

2024 Honda Accord Interior

The latest New 2024 Honda Accord has a back-to-basics interior with a simple center stack and large and simple buttons and knobs that have their charm, of course with the large door openings that make it easier for drivers and passengers to enter the vehicle. In addition, passengers who have a higher posture need to pay attention to their heads so they don’t collide with the sides of the roof.

On the inside, we were very impressed with the 2024 Accord model which did a good job of keeping unwanted noise from escaping the cabin. Things are calm when the Accord rides well because the driver’s seat in the Accord could use a lot more cushioning with enough adjustment options for almost anyone to feel comfortable behind the wheel.

The 2024 Accord is also equipped with a climate system that is more than adequate when it comes to heating or cooling the car. However, the lack of rear seat air ventilation on some trim levels is a major oversight.

2024 Honda Accord

The interior is expected to receive a redesign that will adopt a similar styling to recent Honda models such as the 2023 CR-V pictured above and the Civic, both of which use honeycomb covers for expanded air vents and a large touchscreen sitting above the dashboard.

Higher quality materials and improved technology will be featured throughout. Expect only minor improvements to occupant space, as the Accord uses the same architecture as the previous generation.

Cabin highlights include a digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless smartphone charging, and a Bose sound system. A full suite of driver assistance features will be offered, including a driver attention monitor, traffic sign recognition, surround view monitor, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance.

The current Accord shares a family look with several other Honda vehicles. The tiered dashboard has a wide flat section that rises to accommodate the instrument cluster. The touch screen is placed above the dashboard but positioned closer to the front so that it is easier for the driver to reach.

One audio button is the only physical control for the infotainment screen. A piece of honeycomb trim hides the sedan’s air vents, while large controls for the HVAC system are located at the bottom of the center console. We expect the Accord’s interior design to remain unchanged for 2024.

Technology: Accord 2024

The New Mobil Accord 2024 is equipped with a 12.3-inch touch screen and is equipped with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also present when you get this screen. Apart from that Honda also offers Google voice assistant and service integration which is only available on the top Touring trim.

There’s also an option pack to add optional Bose systems and Google Assistant will be a game changer for the Sport-L test car we have. The Honda Sensing driving aid feature is also present and provides a great atmosphere.

We also appreciated how easy it was to activate adaptive cruise control with just a simple push of a button on the steering wheel.

Storage: Accord 2024

With 16.7 cubic feet of space to offer, there’s plenty of room in the trunk for all your stuff. Even long items like golf bags will fit without any fuss. The center console area is on the broad side with enough surface area to swallow smaller items. There are cupholders wherever you want them, and they are perfect for larger water bottles with high-side walls to keep them in place.

The rear seats are spacious enough to fit many car seats and the LATCH points are easy to see without anything covering them. The only potential headache with installation is the low roofline.

Honda Accord Feature 2024

Honda hasn’t released all of the Accord’s features at this time, but we don’t expect any changes for the upcoming 2024 model year. The base model comes with a seven-inch touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster. Standard features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and multiple USB ports.

The higher trims come with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google built-in, Wi-Fi hotspot, six-inch head-up display, and wireless charging pad.

2024 Honda Accord Exterior

On the exterior, the New 2024 Accord is also equipped with 19-inch wheels which provide excellent ride quality.

2024 Honda Accord Engine and Powertrain

The top 2024 Accord trim level will likely return to being the Hybrid model, the more powerful and efficient of the range. Peak combined output from the system’s 2.0-liter inline-four and two electric motors should still be 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque, and only the Accord Hybrid is expected to receive Sport drive mode as they did for 2023. All 2024 Accords will probably stay front-wheel drive.

The petrol model should still be equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo-four automatic transmission and a CVT. While an increase in output would be nice, look for 192 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque anyway.

The Accord Sport-L Hybrid model shows significant test results. In everyday use maximize fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance. The Accord Sport-L excellently accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 7 seconds which results in a second quicker than most other turbocharged base engine hybrid sedans.

The powertrain that Honda is presenting doesn’t have a transmission in the traditional sense. However, Honda has cleverly programmed it to match engine rpm to provide the familiar shifting experience of traditional automatic transmission.

Accord Powertrain 2024

The Honda Accord is currently available with two powertrains, which we predict will remain the same for 2024. The base Accord comes with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 192 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque.

An upgraded powertrain is available with the Accord Hybrid, which comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. Total output is rated at 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. Both powertrains are equipped with a continuously variable automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on every Accord.

With fuel prices skyrocketing and the cost of filling up a vehicle requiring a private loan, Accord buyers will be pleased that hybridization will feature in the range.

Likely the same as the new CR-V, the petrol-electric setup should use a 2.0-liter inline-four paired with two electric motors – one for propulsion and the other for regeneration. While the system produces a combined 204 hp (152kW) and 247 lb-ft of torque, sending power to the front wheels, we can see the Accord getting a slightly more powerful version.

Other powertrain options will likely include a 1.5-liter turbocharged carryover, albeit revised making just over 190 hp, and a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with at least 252 hp.

2024 Honda Accord MPG

The 2024 Accord ranges from the EPA estimate of 32 mpg combined for the base engine model to 48 mpg combined for the hybrid with smaller 17-inch wheels. We tested the Accord Sport-L, which has 19-inch larger wheels and about 44 mpg combined and clocked in at 41.5 mpg on our real-world evaluation route. That’s a bit less than the EPA’s numbers as well as what we get from other midsize hybrids on the same route, but overall it’s still a pretty efficient sedan.

2024 Accord Safety

Honda Sensing’s suite of driver assistance safety features is standard on every Accord. We think the 2024 Accord will come with the same safety features as the current model.

Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, traffic sign recognition, and blind spot monitoring. Rear cross-traffic warning and low-speed braking control are optional.

2024 Accord Models

It’s the only model in the lineup that comes with a hybrid powertrain and smaller 17-inch wheels that provide a more comfortable ride. You also get an infotainment touchscreen and larger leather seats. We recommend the mid-range EX-L trim for most Accord buyers.

The Accord was available in six trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, and Touring. The LX and EX are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) sends that power to the front wheels.

The remaining trim levels all upgrade to a hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-liter non-turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The total system output is 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. It is also front-wheel drive. Keep reading for a breakdown of the features included with each Accord trim.

Start the Accord lineup with:

2024 Accord Safety

The Honda Sensing branded driver assistance feature is sure to return. This includes automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam, traffic sign recognition, and other systems.

For 2024, look for some features to migrate to lower trims, such as blind spot monitoring across all models. Low-Speed Braking Control can expand beyond the Touring top trim.
