2023 Honda Civic EG2 Hatchback Review

An all-new Civic for the 2023 Honda Civic EG2, with a redesigned body and updated interior. Like the last-generation model, the 2022 Civic will be offered in sedan and hatchback body styles.

The Honda Civic 2023 has a reputation built on 50 years of affordability, efficiency, and durability, and the 2023 redesign Honda Civic EG2 looks to keep that tradition going strong. This 11th generation Civic gets a complete makeover inside and out.

Some might find the new Civic’s more traditional design boring compared to its glossy predecessor, but we think it’s cleaner and more sophisticated.

We also expect the Civic hatchback as well as the sporty Si and Type R models to add some refinement to the exterior.

There’s a bit of novelty under the hood where you’ll still find basic four-cylinder or turbocharged versions that offer faster acceleration.

In terms of performance, Honda often lags behind other automakers by introducing exotic features into cheaper cars.

However, there are some new elements in this Honda Civic EG2 2023. Toptrim Tour received the most notable updates: a wireless charging dock, digital instrument cluster, and a 9-inch touchscreen with additional wireless features for CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

We were impressed by the Honda Civic EG2 2023 sedan. While you might want to look at the refined Mazda 3, the multifunctional Kia Forte, or the sleek new Hyundai Elantra, the Civic remains the highlight. Our journey, thanks to nature, is broad and high-rise trips are exciting energy-saving.

2023 Honda Civic EG2 Mugen

Legendary Honda Civic 2023 tuning firm Mugen takes a subtle approach with Honda’s latest 2022 Civic Hatchback.

2023 Honda Civic EG2

Whenever a new Honda model is introduced, especially something as popular as the 11th iteration of the 2023 Honda Civic Sedan, the brand’s best-selling people mover, and you can almost guarantee that Mugen will garner a series of upgrades.

Formed in 1973 by the son of Soichiro Honda, the founder of the Honda Motor Company, Mugen Motorsports (officially M-TEC Company, Ltd.), has been dividing time between professional motorsports and creating aftermarket enhancements for Honda performance and passengers for decades.

For the 2022 hatchback, the long-running tuning company released a teaser with just two photos. A pair of pictures tell a little about what to expect. In fact, take a look back at our latest story about Honda’s in-house HPD (Honda Performance Development) sedan demo, and the vibe is very similar.

Like the HPD example, Mugen opted to avoid adding body-fitting aero and opted instead for a black add-on.

The leading edge is neatly placed under the main grill, the outer edge is hanging down, and there are some wrinkles and some odd “irregularities” on the surface.

It’s hard to see in the images shown, but it looks like there’s a sticker or cover right above the “H” badge on the “front” of the 2023 Honda Civic Sedan.

You’ll find more pleats in the side skirts on both sides that fit over the rockers and up and up to the rear quarter panels.

Rearview mirror caps with hidden pieces above the side mirrors and Mugen’s world-famous window vents (which will no doubt be forged before this part is even available) are also in play.

It’s often said that wheels can make or break a car’s look, and in this case, Mugen might be off target. While the flow of the 18-inch forged aluminum wheels is in line with the styling of the 11th generation Civic, the look of the rollers is a bit soft, quite yellow, and almost looks unfinished, especially for an aftermarket part.

There’s no denying inspiration from the legendary MF10 wheels from Mugen’s past, but without the muscular cuts, sharp edges and character that have made them stand the test of time.

While the old and much-coveted line of Mugen ’80s and ’90s rims continues to increase in value, fans are eschewing the new designs that often feature a flat design rather than the familiar rims.

Instead of a full diffuser to replace or cover the bottom of the factory bumper, Mugen designers have created two rear sections that start just behind the rear wheels and wrap around the bumper, ending right at the outlet.

Where the 2023 Honda Civic EG2 saw fit to sport a wide oval exhaust finisher, Mugen opted for a more traditional round exhaust tip on their exhaust upgrade.

The days last for hotter performance parts, like a set of cams, exhaust manifolds, intakes, etc., from a company like Mugen seem to be a thing of the past with environmental standards and stringent emissions laws constantly looming over them. over the head.

You’ll notice the subtle wings perched on the rear hatch, which helps differentiate this liftback from its sedan counterparts. For the older geeky Honda aftermarket group, you might get the mid-wing feel of the Mugen Civic EF from this section and I’m right there with you.

The same aura is felt in Mugen’s interpretation of the Honda Vezel (HRV in the US), which carries the center wing in the same way.

The styling is definitely subtle and we might have expected a little more spice based on Mugen’s addition to the 10th-gen Civic Type R, but keep in mind, the 11th-gen Type R is yet to be seen, and it may be a whole different approach once it does.

Mugen said more information about the accessory will be released in September and that it could receive the product through foreign relations before the end of the year.

2023 Honda Civic EG2 Interior

Honda Civic 2023 Concept A sleeker interior design was first introduced in the 2022 Civic with sharper lines and dashes with wide honeycomb details that cleverly hide the vents.

The wider center console looks cleaner than the previous model and is shaped like a large, deep trash can in front of the gear lever for storing your smartphone, keys and snacks on the go.

Honda says passenger space is nearly identical to the 2022 model, and the same goes for cargo space in the sedan; A hatchback body model will also be proposed, but we don’t have any information about this model yet.

The Honda Civic EG2 2023 will come standard with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, but the larger 9.0-inch unit is optional, as is the 10.2-inch digital display.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard and also offer wireless connectivity when paired with two large displays.

Other options include in-dash navigation, a Bose stereo, and a wireless charging dock.

Honda Civic EG2 Engine 2023

Despite redesigning everything about the new Civic, Honda has decided to bring the powertrain options from the previous generation car.

The base model comes standard with a 158-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder while the upgraded engine continues to be a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that now produces 180 horsepower.

The new 2023 Honda Civic EG2 is offered with front-wheel drive cars only. Unfortunately, the manual transmission offered on the previous generation Civic sedan has been cut for 2022, leaving a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) as the only offering; the six-speed manual is still available on hatchback models.

On our test track, our turbocharged Touring sedan took 7.5 seconds to hit 60 mph, which is slightly slower than the last-gen Civic’s results.

Fortunately, the agile handling, communicative steering, and balanced ride that we so much appreciate in the last-generation model are here and count for a moment.

A Sporty Si and a high-performance Type-R variant are also in the works and both will offer a manual transmission; we review these models separately.

Honda Civic EG2 MPG 2023

According to the EPA, the most fuel-efficient version of the new Civic is the mid-range EX, which gets ratings of 33 mpg city, 42 mpg highway, and 36 mpg combined.

When we get the chance, we’ll take the 2022 Civic on our 75-mph highway fuel-efficient route and report the results here. For more information on the Civic’s fuel economy, visit the EPA website.

2023 Honda Civic EG2 Price

Our recommendation is the well-equipped EX trim, which comes with lots of extra features that easily justify the price hike.

Those perks include blind-spot monitoring, a powered sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated outside mirrors, and heated front seats. It also comes standard with a more powerful 180-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
