Posted on

2024 Honda Pilot rumors are that Honda will reveal a new fourth-generation Honda Pilot for the 2023 model year, although current supply chain issues could push this back to 2024.

Regardless, look for a new Pilot to share its foundation with the latest Acura MDX and its basic styling with the 2023 Honda CR-V. which will come .

We expect the next Pilot to offer more space, better fuel economy, and a much better infotainment system than the current model.

Honda could even give the next-generation Pilot TrailSport some more serious off-road chops, too.

Don’t expect a two-speed transfer case, but shorter first gear and additional underbody protection certainly make it possible.

The Honda Pilot can easily become the ideal three-row midsize SUV for your family to enjoy some time on the road together. The pilot isn’t too big, but it’s not cramped, so it’s the perfect size for six or seven people.

With a new exterior that departs from the world of minivans, it is often equated with; This Honda enters the new model year in style.

The 2024 Honda Pilot is a midsize three-row SUV with a reputation for providing a quiet and relaxed driving experience.

While Honda isn’t going to mess around with its family-friendly SUV formula, the 2024 Pilot is expected to have a tougher-looking exterior to keep up with its rivals.

2024 Honda Pilot Review

Honda has a bunch of new products rolling out in the next year or two, including the recently peeked Accord 2024. That list also includes the Honda Pilot 2024, which will undergo a redesign for the first time since 2016, although the crossover did receive a refresh back in 2019.

2024 Honda Pilot

Now, Ford Authority spies have spotted the Honda Pilot 2024 prototype driving around, giving us a good look. what can we expect from rival Ford Explorer, which just happens to look like the same Blue Oval crossover?

At least, that’s true of the front, which has a large oval-shaped grille flanked by sleek headlights, much like the current-generation Explorer and perhaps even more resemblance to the recently updated Chinese version.

To be fair, it’s a pretty conventional look that many vehicles have these days, especially those in the hot world of crossovers and SUVs.

Apart from that, the Honda Pilot 2024 is also expected to take inspiration from the Passport and Ridgeline in terms of updated styling, giving it a more square and upright look which has become a trend these days.

Similarly, the next-gen Pilot is also expected to move from the current platform – which is shared with the Odyssey minivan – to a fairly new foundation that is on the Acura MDX.

In the first quarter of 2022, Pilot trailed the Explorer in terms of sales, as Honda sold only 23,989 units – good for a nine percent share of the main three-line crossover segment in the US – while Ford moved 42,736 Explorers, which had a 16 percent market share.

However, both crossovers trail the segment-leading Toyota Highlander, which holds a 25 percent market share after enjoying sales of 66,026 units in Q1.

Currently, the Explorer 2023 order bank is slated to open on August 11, 2022, while production is scheduled to begin at the Chicago Assembly plant on November 7, 2022, the Ford Authority reported earlier this month.

It’s currently unclear if the North American version of the 2023 Explorer will receive any kind of refresh, but it’s possible given the recent update implemented on the Chinese version.

Honda Pilot 2024 Redesign

GM Authority spy photographers have captured a prototype for testing the next-generation Honda Pilot 2024 crossover on public roads, giving us an early glimpse of this future Chevy Traverse rival.

Judging by this prototype, the Honda Pilot 2024 seems pretty far in its development, with this particular test vehicle that looks like production-ready LED headlights, as well as a production-ready grille.

The tight camouflage does a decent job of covering some of the body lines, but we can safely say that the next-gen Pilot will stay true to the current model with a very similar-looking silhouette.

The front end looks a little tougher, but gives this crossover a bolder look thanks to its large, upright grille and flattened hood.

The rear has a bit more camouflage, with the vinyl wrap completely hiding the vehicle’s taillights, though a sporty-looking hatch spoiler is present.

The next-generation Honda Pilot will take advantage of the Japanese automaker’s Global Light Truck unibody platform currently servicing the Acura MDX.

It’s unclear whether it will stick with the current model’s 280 horsepower 3.5L V6 engine, or whether it will move to another, more efficient Honda powertrain.

It appears that the Japanese automaker could offer a plug-in hybrid model in addition to the regular petrol model, which could potentially use the same 2.0-liter engine and dual-motor setup as the current Honda Accord Hybrid.

We also expect an overhauled interior with new infotainment and digital dashboard displays, along with the new Honda Sensing active safety features.

Honda sold 23,989 Pilots in the first quarter of this year. This places the Pilot just ahead of the Chevy Traverse in the main three-row crossover segment in terms of market share, which resulted in sales of 23,464 units over the same time period.

The Toyota Highlander leads this segment by a wide margin, generating sales of 66,026 units in Q1 this year for a 25 percent market share.

Some items are new to this next-generation SUV, but details are scarce. The new features we know are:

  • Completely redesigned body
  • Increased passenger space and cargo space
  • Bolder style, sleeker interior
  • Infotainment display mounted on upright dashboard
New platform shared with recently redesigned Acura MDX

2024 Honda Pilot Specs

This pilot should continue to have a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 280 horsepower under the hood. This engine served Honda as part of almost every vehicle larger than the CR-V in the lineup.

2024 Honda Pilot

We’re not sure if the power will be channeled through the same 9-speed automatic transmission as before or whether the Pilot will use the new 10-speed automatic setting.

There are rumors of a new plug-in hybrid model being part of the Pilot lineup.

If the powertrain stays the same for 2023 as it will for 2022, this SUV brings up to 5,000 pounds of towing capability to market.
