2022 Honda CRV Redesign: The Latest Update Redesign CR-V Overview

Posted on

2022 Honda CRV Redesign Yes, the Honda CR-V is a very good compact SUV, and it comes close to the total package you can find in this segment. This latest iteration of Honda’s small crossover is compact simply because it offers large cargo space and passenger space close to the front class.

The high-end materials add to the impressive cabin impression. All-around CR-V performance, with fast acceleration, great fuel economy, and forgiving ride quality.

On the downside, it comes with some standard infotainment features, and the optional touchscreen system isn’t user-friendly. We analyzed 25 Honda CR-V reviews – along with reliability ratings, estimated fuel economy, and more – to help you decide if the CR-V 2022 is the right new car for you.

This CR-V 2021 review combines research applicable to all models in this generation, launched in 2017. US News Best Cars have been rating and reviewing vehicles since 2007, and our staff has over 75 years of combined experience in the auto industry.

To ensure our objectivity, we never accept expensive gifts from carmakers, and outside companies manage advertisements on our site. The CR-V should be on the list of anyone who has seen a crossover SUV. The base model is a decent value proposition thanks to plenty of hefty driver assistance features,

But technicians will need to spend a few thousand extras on perks like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The CR-V checks almost every box, but it’s not very athletic. If you’re looking for a small SUV with nimble handling, you’ll definitely want to take a look at the Mazda CX-5.

2022 Honda CR-V Reviews

Honda is working on the next-generation CR-V, and it looks like it will be getting a major update compared to the current model. Recent spy photos give us the best sneak peek of the new crossover, revealing more of its new design.

And, now, a rendering sketch from our colleagues at Motor.es sheds the camouflage of the car to imagine what it will look like when Honda officially launches it. It’s hard to hide the styling of the thoroughly revised CR-V, and it looks like the crossover is already using the final version in the last batch of spy shots.

Motor.es translates what we saw earlier into a vehicle with a much more mature design. This sketch of the CR-V looks longer than the current model, and the front and rear overhangs have also been added.

The front end is more square, less angular, while the narrow slit headlamps are connected by a chrome strip that spans the trapezoidal grille. There are also slim fog lamps flanking the lower grille opening.

This rendering only previews the front three-quarters of the vehicle, so we can’t see the rear. However, spy shots indicate that the CR-V gets a more refined rear design.

Camouflage covers the taillights, so we’re not sure how they’ll differ from the current model. However, we expected a more elegant styling, similar to what Honda did with the updated Civic.

We don’t know what will underpin the next-gen CR-V, or what powertrain it will use. Spy photos show the car sporting twin exhaust pipes, meaning there is a combustion engine providing power. However, we also hope that Honda will offer an electrified version, with an all-electric model expected towards the end of its life cycle.

The next-generation CR-V’s larger footprint also allowed Honda to release a three-line version. That will be especially interesting in the United States (US), which currently only has a five-seat model. However, in several other markets, including Indonesia, a seven-seat variant is already available.

We predict Honda will reveal the new CR-V next year before it goes on sale in the US as the model year 2023.

2022 Honda CRV Redesign (Overview)

The compact SUV class is one of the most competitive and congested segments in the automotive world, and it takes a lot for one crossover to rise above another. But that’s what happened with the Honda CR-V.

At a minimum, a compact crossover should offer a sizable cargo area and a comfortable interior. The CR-V meets these requirements, with more storage than nearly any vehicle in its class and a ride so smooth that you can swear you’re driving a luxury SUV.

The seats are just as luxurious, and there’s enough passenger space so that four 6-foot tall adults won’t have any problems on long journeys. Few errors occurred, although we found that the fresh engine was a little thirstier than one might expect in real-world driving.

The CR-V doesn’t want to compete, but only a few rivals pose a serious threat. The Mazda CX-5 ranks just as high.

And while the rear seats and cargo area are less spacious than the CR-V, Mazda impresses with its stylish exterior, thrilling driving dynamics, and a very powerful turbocharged engine.

In terms of space, the Hyundai Tucson divides the difference, with a narrow cargo area but a large rear seat. The newly redesigned Subaru Forester is another practical and solid bet.

2022 Honda CRV Changes

At the rear, the CR-V will have high L-shaped taillights, chrome elements just below the rear windshield, and two exhaust holes. Inside, most of it will remain the same for the CR-V 2022. The SUV will continue to feature a classy and user-friendly design.

2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid

Honda is increasingly launching environmentally friendly vehicles in the global market. After the City Hybrid in Thailand, now it’s Honda’s turn to launch the CR-V Hybrid in England.

This medium-sized sport utility vehicle (SUV) still looks the same as the previous model. However, on the back there is an additional e: HEV emblem which indicates that this car has hybrid technology.

Under the hood, this SUV carries the Atkinson Cycle i-VTEC 2,000 cc i-MMD engine with a pair of electric motors and a lithium-ion battery.

Its power reaches 184 ps or the equivalent of 182 tk and 315 Nm of torque. With this engine, this car is claimed to have a fuel consumption of 5.57 liters per 100 km or about 17.9 km per liter in the front wheel drive model.

Meanwhile, for the AWD driven model, the fuel consumption is 6.0 liters per 100 km or about 16.6 km per liter. As is known, in Indonesia for the 2,000 cc petrol engine variant, the CR-V power reaches 154 ps or the equivalent of 152 tk and 189 Nm of torque.

Meanwhile, the CR-V 1,500 cc turbo engine produces 190 ps or the equivalent of 188 hp and a maximum torque of 240 Nm.

Further changes, the suspension is said to have increased compared to the previous model. Changes this time make the dings feel stiffer, but provide good control.

Including the addition of the Honda Sensing feature, which is a sophisticated safety technology consisting of several systems to minimize the potential for accidents while driving.

2022 Honda CR V Touring

The stylish and spacious interior creates a cool and comfortable environment in the CR-V. It combines quality materials and a familiar layout for a contemporary look and feel.

Fake wooden accent balance, chrome plastic, and brushed satin finish looked very luxurious in the touring version we tested. Supportive, well-chiseled front seats embrace the occupiers in all the right places.

Class leader in cargo volume and baggage area, the CR-V not only scores highly in the subject, but also by incorporating user-friendly and useful equipment.

We managed to fit 10 carry-on cases behind the rear seats, which match the CX-5 and Ford Escape. The rear seats fold flat, and Honda offers the best luggage space in its class.

Value and efficiency are paramount here. That’s why we recommend the basic EX trim. You get a long list of standard equipment and advanced security features for the money.

The extras on the EX-L and Touring are great but nothing you can’t afford to leave. The CR-V Hybrid 2022 is offered in three trim levels: EX, EX-L and Touring. The 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine mated to a hybrid system combines to produce 212 horsepower.

All three trims come standard with all wheel drive. The range-topping Touring model completes the lineup with additional comfort features such as:

  1. Unique LED headlamps
  2. 19 inch wheels
  3. Integrated navigation system
  4. Wireless smartphone charging
  5. Nine speaker premium audio system
  6. Front and rear parking sensors
  7. Roof rails
  8. Liftgate hands-free

2022 Honda CR V EXL

Honda sells the CR-V in LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring editions, but over the past year something changed: the CR-V Hybrid that brings gas-electric power to the party.

The celebration is muted on the stylish front, where the CR-V’s conservative outfit on and off doesn’t show the lacklusterness of the Toyota RAV4, and some of the Mazda CX-5’s curves.

The CR-V knows that there is more to just skin. The CR-V extracts more cubic inches of cargo and people space than may be evident from its compact footprint.

It’s comfortable for five people, has good seating and cargo space – and it makes 9 for utility. The CR-V’s excellent front seats have manual adjustments in the base trim, but the EX gets 12-way power movement.

The LX and EX crossovers feature durable fabric upholstery, while the EX-L and Touring trim sport good quality leather upholstery.

The CR-V provides good space for the adults up front, but what’s more, gives them a high seated position with a low dashboard that opens the front view, and surrounds it with a large cupholder and console holder.

Functionally, it is better than many of the luxury SUVs we could see.

2022 Honda CRV Redesign (Interior)

The Honda CR-V offers one of the largest cargo spaces in the compact SUV class. Behind the second-row seats, you’ll find 39.2 cubic feet of storage space or enough room for several large suitcases or duffle bags.

You can fold the backseat down to open 75.8 cubic feet of space.  The cargo-carrying volume is similar to or better than the maximum capacity of many mid-sized SUVs.

Also, the low liftover height of the crossover makes it easy to load heavy items. The CR-V accommodates up to five people. The two front seats are comfortable and provide plenty of support for daily commuting.

With more than 40 inches of legroom, the second row provides ample room for even tall riders to lie down and relax.  There are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seat.

The rear center seat has a top and one bottom anchor and can borrow another lower anchor from the driver’s side seat.

The bottom anchor is easy to reach. However, it takes a little effort to attach the car seat strap. Additionally, you may be confused with other hardware for the mooring anchors on the back of the chair.

The CR-V has a classy cabin with a sharp design and high-quality materials wherever you look and touch. In-car technology is one of Honda’s few weaknesses.

The base model is a kind of dinosaur, as it only comes with a 5-inch screen that lacks touch capabilities. All other trims feature a touchscreen system with built-in support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

You may want to use those options instead of the native interface, which suffers from clunky menus and slow response times. The volume knob is the only physical control for infotainment; Shortcut keys for functions such as audio source or home screen are electronic and locked on the side of the display.

  • Standard infotainment features: 5-inch screen, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and a USB port
  • Available infotainment features: 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, additional front USB port, two rear USB ports, an eight-speaker stereo, wireless device charging, navigation, and premium stereo nine speakers
  • Additional standard feature: automatic climate control
  • Other features available: dual-zone automatic climate control, moonroof, remote start, proximity keyless entry, auto-dimming mirrors, universal garage door opener, and interior ambient lighting

2022 Honda CRV Redesign (Engine)

The Honda CR-V offers only one powertrain setup, but that’s a good one. The 190 horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine helps you to go fast from a standstill and provides ample top-end power as you continue to accelerate.

The standard continuously variable automatic (CVT) transmission is praised for its smooth, smooth operation. This type of gearbox is often ridiculed in other vehicles because it makes a buzzing sound or hinders acceleration; there is no such concern in the CR-V.

The CR-V 2022 returns excellent fuel economy for a compact SUV.  It’s estimated at 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway by front-wheel drive standards.

The all-wheel-drive model is rated 27 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. This SUV prioritizes driving comfort over agile handling.

The matching CR-V suspension helps cushion road impacts, and the cab remains free from most outside noise. Although not very athletic, this Honda has a quiet steering wheel and is easy to maneuver. The brakes are responsive and inspire confidence when it’s time to stop.
